Mississippi State Run Rules Samford in Birmingham on First Day of Road Trip

Vann Stuedeman and the Mississippi State softball team took to the road today. Their first stop was Birmingham, Alabama today for Mississippi State to battle Samford. The Bulldogs’ game against, well, the Bulldogs, ended in 5 quick innings as MSU won big.

Mississippi State jumped out to a large lead and never looked back. In the top of the first inning with two outs, Sarai Niu got MSU moving with a double to left center, pushing Emily Heimberger across the plate. Carmen Carter followed that up with a double of her own that brought Niu home. Morgan Bell then got the Bulldogs a 3-0 advantage.

The second inning wasn’t as productive for State as the first was. MSU was only able to get one run in the inning and it came from Reggie Harrison’s RBI single into the outfield. MSU earned a 4-0 lead through 2 innings.

The third inning featured an absolute explosion of offense as MSU scored 7 runs in the inning. After another Carter RBI double, and a pair of RBI singles from Morgan Bell and Bevia Robinson, Mia Davidson stepped up to the plate with 2 baserunners already on base. The freshman star responded with a three run homer, giving MSU an 11-0 lead. The home run was Davidson’s 9th of the season.

Samford attempted to extend the game out beyond 5 innings, but found out that they couldn’t. Samford cut the lead to 11-1, but they couldn’t make the game any closer or push it into anymore innings.

Candace Denis earned the start and her third win of the season. Denis threw for every inning for MSU and held the opposing batters to the 1 aforementioned run off of 4 hits.

After defeating the Samford Bulldogs, Mississippi State is now 22-3 this season. They’ve won 10 consecutive games and will look to continue their winning ways. MSU will take on Memphis at their place tomorrow and will head up to Mizzou this weekend.
