Mississippi State Welcomes Opponents to Starkville for Kansas City Region Round 1 Matchups

Mississippi State women’s basketball, as a number 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, will be getting things started at home this weekend. The Bulldogs will be bringing their next group of opponents to the Hump for the opening round of the Kansas City Region.

After dropping their last game, Mississippi State will get a chance to get back on track. With a nice home court advantage, MSU will have the perfect opportunity to build momentum. The Bulldogs’ first game in the NCAA Tournament will be against the Nicholls State Colonels.

On Saturday evening at 5, Mississippi State and Nicholls State will tip off. The Nicholls State Colonels are currently riding a 7 game winning streak and won the Southland Conference tournament. However, they’re only 19-13 on the year. In away games, the Colonels are 8-6. MSU, in home games, is a perfect 16-0.

Before Mississippi State and Nicholls State play, Syracuse and Oklahoma State will face each other.

Syracuse, as the eighth seed in the NCAA Tournament, comes to Starkville with a 22-8 record. Oklahoma State isn’t far behind as the ninth seed. The Cowgirls are 20-10 this season, but they’ve struggled away from Stillwater. In away games, Oklahoma State is 5-5. They are 1-2 in neutral site matchups.

Mississippi State is a far superior team to all three of these teams. The Bulldogs, at least in theory, should be able to go through the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament with relative ease. However, if Mississippi State wants to win a national title this year, they cannot slip up. The Bulldogs must remain focused and take care of business this weekend.
