The Mississippi State softball team invited several opponents to come to Starkville this past weekend. The Bulldogs played four games against three different opponents and beat every single one of them along the way. Here’s what happened this weekend.

Mississippi State Sweeps Opponents in Bulldog Slamboree Invitational

On Friday, Vann Stuedeman’s squad started the weekend off strong. The Bulldogs earned a solid win over the Lamar University Cardinals from Beaumont, Texas. In the game, Candace Denis, a newcomer to the program via a transfer, pitched well and kept the Bulldogs competitive.

When Saturday rolled around, the Bulldogs played in a doubleheader against the Sam Houston State Bearkats and the Mercer Bears. In game one of the doubleheader, MSU wasted no time and quickly put a bunch of runs on the board. Mississippi State eventually won 7-1 over the Mercer Bears.

In game two, the Bulldogs continued their high scoring antics. Mississippi State put up 9 runs against Sam Houston State all while keeping their opponent from scoring at all en route to a run rule victory.

Mississippi State would play Sam Houston State one final time on Sunday. In the final game of the weekend for the hosting Bulldogs, MSU kept their guests from scoring yet again. The Bulldogs won 5-0.

With the four game winning streak from this weekend, Mississippi State is now 16-3 overall and 13-1 in Nusz Park. Later this week, the Bulldogs will play Boston College on Wednesday. Following the midweek tilt, MSU will play two games each against Illinois and UMass Lowell.
