The Bulldogs Finally Return Home

Mississippi State has played 11 games this season. Well, almost 12 games, but that one only went for 4 innings before it got fogged out. Exactly zero of those games have occurred in Starkville, Mississippi. Three of those games were played under the lead of a coach who quickly got canned. The rest of them led by Gary Henderson.

And now, on a 3 game winning streak, Mississippi State returns home. The Bulldogs had every reason to continue to let the early part of this season slip away. A 12 day road trip across three different states, with the bulk of those games happening all over Texas, shortly after losing the guy trusted to take your team to Omaha is certainly something that would test the mettle of most teams.

And Mississippi State came out of it by winning 6 of its last 8 games. The Bulldogs have shown a desire to fight this season, and they might just be able to salvage it. Should they continue to be this resilient, this season might just be a decent one.

Mississippi State’s road trip got the Bulldogs some solid wins. In the Shriner’s Classic, MSU beat the Houston Cougars (who took a series from #13 Cal State Fullerton), took down Louisiana Lafayette (who beat #12 Vanderbilt in Houston) and then also knocked off Sam Houston State (who also beat Vandy).

Mississippi State did also drop some frustrating games along the way. However, the 3-6 loss to 10-2 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi down in Corpus Christi, Texas may not be the worst loss that any team will suffer this season. No, it wasn’t good. I don’t think anyone would argue otherwise. But it’s certainly an understandable loss.

Losing to 2-9 McNeese State on the other hand, is, well, not as understandable…

Regardless of that, Mississippi State is on a three game winning streak. While traveling around Texas (with a stop in Louisiana), they went 5-2. Under Gary Henderson’s tutelage, Mississippi State is 6-2.

The Bulldogs are showing resiliency after a horrific start to the 2018 year. It’s yet to be determined what the end of this season will be, or what the rest of this season will hold. But as of right now, Mississippi State is looking much improved. That’s something we should enjoy and celebrate.
