The Bulldogs beat the Bearkats for the Second Time This Weekend

With the Bulldog Slamboree Invitational coming to a close, Mississippi State’s softball claimed a shutout victory. The Bulldogs beat the Bearkats of Sam Houston State 5-0 this afternoon. This comes after Mississippi State beat Sam Houston State 9-0 yesterday. This is MSU’s 9th shutout of the season.

Vann Stuedeman started Holly Ward who would go on to throw a complete game. Ward only threw 92 pitches in those 7 innings while striking 10 batters out. The Bearkats were only able to get a pair of hits off of Ward. On the year, Holly Ward’s record is now a team leading 7-2.

At the plate, Emily Heimberger shined, hitting 3 for 3 with two hits and one double. Heimberger also had two stolen bases.

Mississippi State was able to score 5 runs in the game with the first 2 coming in the second inning. With the bases loaded as Emily Heimberger made it on third, Carmen Carter on second, and Grace Dabbs pinch running for Morgan Bell on first, Calyn Adams flew out to right field. With a 1-0 lead, Bevia Robinson then sac bunted to give MSU a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Mississippi State added another run thanks to another RBI sacrifice fly from Adams. Robinson followed that up with another fly out to right field of her own bringing the Bulldogs’ lead to 4-0.

The final run of the day came in the form of brilliant base running. Heimberger added to her strong day by stealing third and then scooting home off of a throwing error by the Bearkats. Mississippi State won 5-0.

The Bulldogs’ victory gave them four in four tries during the Bulldog Slamboree. Mississippi State has now stretched its winning streak out to four games, giving the Bulldogs an overall record of 16-3. MSU’s next opponent will be flying in from Massachusetts later this week as the Bulldogs host Boston College.
