Mississippi State received its 12th commitment of the 2018 recruiting class, as offensive lineman Griffin McDowell announced his decision.

Griffin McDowell pledged his commitment to Dan Mullen and the Mississippi State staff early Friday morning. McDowell, a 6-foot-4 and 280 pound offensive lineman, currently plays for Lee County High School in the Peach State.

McDowell camped at Mississippi State and received his first SEC offer from the Bulldogs earlier this month. Tight end coach D.J. Looney is his primary recruiter, and he is obviously intrigued about McDowell’s potential to grow into a solid SEC lineman.

The newest addition to Mississippi State’s 2018 recruiting class announced his decision via Twitter Friday morning:

Bulldawgs247’s Paul Jones caught up with the latest addition to State’s 2018 class. McDowell explained why he wants to be a Bulldog.

"“They have good coaches there and I really like Coach Looney and Coach Hevesy,” said McDowell. “They wished my dad a ‘happy father’s day’ and I thought that was really cool. I knew if I went there it will be like family to me.”“When I started the recruiting process one of my concerns was finding a team that treated me like family,” said McDowell. “Plus, I didn’t want to go too far from home and Mississippi State is just five or six hours away.“But it wasn’t just about football. Mississippi State has a lot to offer for my future once I am done with football. Coach Mullen stresses academics and wants his guys to succeed in the class room, too. And that is another thing I like about Coach Mullen.”"

Under Dan Mullen, the Mississippi State football program has made sure to create a family atmosphere for everyone involved. McDowell was sold on the environment and is ready to wear the Maroon and White.

Although he told Jones that he has never snapped in a game, McDowell says that Mississippi State is recruiting him to either play guard or center in Starkville. Offensive line coach John Hevesy sees his newest addition to his group able to contribute at both positions.

McDowell is currently unrated on 247Sports, but lists offers from Kansas and Indiana, among others. He becomes State’s fourth out-of-state commitment in the 2018 class, joining four-star Texas quarterback Jalen Mayden, three-star Florida defensive end Aaron Morgan, and Alabama kicker Evan McPherson.

Welcome to the family, Griffin!
