One of Mississippi State’s biggest wide receiver targets of the 2017 class is back on the market for 2018. He released his top five schools on Friday.

Stephen Guidry was one of Mississippi State’s priority targets at the wide receiver position in last year’s recruiting cycle. Unfortunately, Guidry committed to the home state LSU Tigers over both Mississippi State and Arizona State last December.

However, Guidry failed to qualify academically in this past recruiting cycle and was forced to go stay in the JUCO system for another year. Guidry will play out his sophomore season at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi this fall.

Despite failing to get out of Hinds in time to be in February’s signing class, Guidry remains a hot commodity at the receiver position for the Bulldogs. He released his top five schools Friday morning:

Guidry includes Mississippi State with his five other finalists: Arizona State, LSU, Texas Tech, and Oregon. As mentioned above, State, ASU, and LSU were all heavily involved in Guidry’s recruitment last cycle.

The 6-foot-4, 190 pound wideout is ranked as the top overall JUCO prospect in the nation for the 2018 class, per the 247Sports Composite. Guidry would instantly see a huge role in Mississippi State’s offense the moment he were to step on campus. He would likely become the go-to target in the offense, especially with Donald Gray graduating.

It’s worth noting that four of Guidry’s top five teams run a variation of the spread offense. State, Arizona State, Tech, and Oregon all use spread offense schemes. The one outlier? LSU. The team he committed to last winter.

It seems as if Guidry would like to play for the Tigers, but realizes he would excel while playing in a spread offense. With Nick Fitzgerald at quarterback, Keytaon Thompson learning under him, and 4-star Jalen Mayden set to join the team next season, Guidry would have no shortage of quality quarterbacks throwing him the ball. Especially with Dan Mullen at the helm.

It will be interesting to see how this recruitment develops.
