Brent Rooker Tabbed 1 of 4 Finalists for Golden Spikes Award – Paul Jones, Bulldawgs247

After a season where Brent Rooker earned SEC Player of the Year honors and a consensus All-American, he adds to his awards.

"On Monday, Rooker was selected with the 35th pick in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins, making him the 14th Diamond Dawg in program history to become a first round pick.Rooker finished his stellar season with a .387 batting average and a school record 30 doubles. His 96 hits was eighth in program history for hits in a single season, while his 23 home runs was fifth in the MSU record books. His 82 RBIs made him the first played in SEC history to record 20 home runs, 30 doubles and 75 RBIs in a single season.In addition to being named a Golden Spikes Finalist and Dick Howser Trophy Finalist, Rooker was awarded the C Spire Ferriss Trophy as the best player in the state of Mississippi."

Trio Of Diamond Dawgs Collect All-America, All-Region Honors – HailState.com

In addition to Brent Rooker, shortstop Ryan Gridley and closer Spencer Price collected national honors for their spectacular seasons.

"First Team All-SEC shortstop Ryan Gridley was named to the ABCA South All-Region’s second team. Gridley thrived on offense and defense for State in his junior season as he posted a .327 batting avergae with 88 hits, 15 doubles, six home runs and 39 RBIs, in addition to having turned 38 double plays.After recording 14 saves in 2017, sophomore relief pitcher Spencer Price was named a Third Team All-American by NCBWA. Price also posted a team-best 2.91 ERA, with a 4-1 record in 34 innings pitched over 31 appearances."

Fletcher Cox Named To Forbes’ Highest Paid Celebrities’ List – Cole Patterson, Maroon and White Nation

Fletcher Cox has seen himself rise to stardom in the NFL. Last summer, the Eagles signed the former Mississippi State defensive lineman to the richest contract for a non-QB in NFL history. Now, he is on Forbes’ list of the 100 Highest Paid Celebrities.

"Forbes released their Top 100 Highest Paid Celebrities List and former Mississippi State Bulldog Fletcher Cox made the list. The current Philadelphia Eagle sits at 93. Cox is ahead of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, rapper Chance the Rapper, Katy Perry, and Carmelo Anthony. He is one of only three NFL players to make the list, too (Andrew Luck, 37 and Drew Brees, 48)."

MSU commit Evan McPherson comfortable with future in Starkville – Paul Jones, Bulldawgs247

Paul Jones caught up with 2018 kicker commit Evan McPherson and talked about his commitment to the Bulldogs. Needless to say, one of the nation’s best kickers is excited about playing in Starkville.

"McPherson committed to the Bulldogs back during Super Bulldog Weekend and is rated as the nation’s No. 3 kicker by 247Composite.As he noted on the day of his commitment, Boinol was a major factor for McPherson’s decision to be a Bulldog. He noted of having that luxury in Starkville with Boinol and how it separated the Bulldogs from his other offers.“That was a big reason for my commitment,” added McPherson on Boinol. “All these other schools don’t have anyone like Coach Boinol. He is easy to learn from and he knows what he is doing.”McPherson has become quite accustomed to camp drills at Mississippi State, as noted. Last weekend marked his fifth consecutive summer camp to attend with the Bulldogs."
