Fletcher Cox, Mississippi State’s 2012 first round-selection, was voted as the 38th best player in the NFL by his peers in the NFL Top 100.

It’s that time of year again. With football rapidly approaching us, it is time for the NFL Network to rank who they perceive to be the top 100 players in the League.

The players around the NFL vote on their peers on the 100 best players around. This year, former Mississippi State defensive lineman Fletcher Cox has made the list at number 38 — which is a large jump of 11 spots from just last year.

After making the Pro-Bowl in consecutive seasons — the only Eagle on the defensive side of the ball to do so — the buzz around Cox continues to grow. In his career he has racked up 28.5 sacks, 255 solo tackles, been named to the Pro-Bowl twice, and was recognized as second team All-Pro in 2014 and 2015.

Even with all the accolades Cox has received, some still believe he has not received the recognition he deserves.

Fletcher’s NFL success began when he was picked 12th at the 2012 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, following a productive 2011 junior campaign, where he was named a first team All-American defensive tackle for the Bulldogs.

He found his way to Starkville via Yazoo City High School, where he was regarded as a 4-star tackle, and the third best prospect in Mississippi by 247Sports. He dazzled many with his quick first step and a blazing 4.47 40 time in a 6’4″, 240 LB frame.

Even after leaving Mississippi State, players like Fletcher Cox leave a legacy that not only reflects positively on the program’s past, but assist in future recruiting. Since his junior season in 2011, Dan Mullen and the Dawgs have successfully signed 5-stars Chris Jones and Jeffrey Simmons, and 4 stars such as Denico Autry, Nick James and Aaron Odom, along with numerous other notable defensive linemen.

Six years after his time as a Dawg, Fletcher Cox continues to bring positive attention to the school, and our track record of defensive linemen in-particular, as he will carry on with every Pro-Bowl and All-Pro recognition he will receive in the future.
