The honors keep rolling in for Mississippi State star Brent Rooker as Collegiate Baseball Newspaper names him co-Player of the Year.

A season for the ages.

The honors and recognition keep rolling in for Mississippi State first baseman and Brent Rooker. This likely won’t be the last for the Triple Crown leader.

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper released their All-Americans and their National Player(s) of the Year Thursday morning.

Rooker, along with Louisville’s do-it-all Brendan McKay, earned Player of the Year honors by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper:

"The 2017 Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams andNational Players of The Year have been announced.Louisville’s Brendan McKay and Mississippi State’s Brent Rooker are Collegiate Baseball’s National Players of The Year.Rooker led the SEC in nine offensive categories, including batting average (.404), slugging percentage (.843), on-base percentage (.505), hits (90), RBI (76), doubles (29), home runs (21), total bases (188) and stolen bases (18)."

As stated above, Rooker leads the entire Southeastern Conference in nine categories — including batting average and home runs. He recently became the program’s first ever SEC Player of the Year earlier this month.

From the home runs out of the park to key base hits to drive in runs to big plays at first, Rooker is having one of the best individual seasons in recent memory. Brent Rooker will go down as one of the greatest players in the rich history of Mississippi State baseball.

The Triple Crown leader still has some work to do to become the SEC’s first crown winner since some guy named Rafael Palmeiro accomplished the historic feat.

Rooker and the Bulldogs begin their Road to Omaha tomorrow evening against the South Alabama Jaguars. As always, Maroon and White Nation will have full coverage.
