Mississippi State safety Bryant Bryant is named one of college football’s fastest players for the second straight season.

Brandon Bryant showed star potential during his redshirt-freshman season in Starkville. The speedy defensive back was all over the field, grabbed three interceptions, and even took one pick back to the house.

Unfortunately, Bryant’s sophomore campaign was not as productive as his first season. Some of that can be contributed to a change in the defensive coordinator, but he did not look like himself. I expect Bryant to bounce back in a big way under Todd Grantham. Athlon Sports even has him on their All-SEC fourth-team.

NFL.com’s Chase Goodbread set out to list the 17 fastest players in the nation heading into the 2017 college football season. Goodbread noted that speedster John Ross  highlighted their list last season — which also included Bryant.

"A year ago, CFB 24/7’s list of college football’s fastest players highlighted John Ross III, who went on to break the NFLCombine speed record with a 4.22 40-yard dash clocking in March. We present CFB’s 2017 crop of speed merchants just a few days before one of America’s greatest tests of speed, Sunday’s running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway."

This is what Goodbread had to say about Mississippi State’s safety:

"8. Brandon Bryant, S, Mississippi StateIt’s fitting that Bryant wears No. 1, because he’d finish No. 1 in a race with the rest of the Bulldogs. The fourth-year junior has been clocked at less than 4.3 seconds in the 40-yard dash not once, not twice, but three times in team testing, most recently with a 4.29 recorded just two weeks ago. He’s timed as low as 4.24 earlier in his career."

Here is just a glimpse of the Tuncia native’s blazing speed:

With an off-season to adjust himself and become comfortable in Grantham’s defensive system, expect Brandon Bryant to have a huge bounce-back year for the Bulldogs during the upcoming season.
