Itawamba Community College power hitter Tyreque Reed commits to Mississippi State.
Mississippi State gained a huge commitment this week in the form of a powerful outfielder, Tyreque Reed. The Houlka, Mississippi native, will join former Itawamba Indian Tanner Poole on the Mississippi State roster.
Reed was a highly sought after baseball recruit after his nation leading season batting .504, while knocking in 57 RBI’s, and smashing 15 home runs. The parallels to Brent Rooker are easy to make, as he is a power hitter who can also hit for a single and easily get on base.
Reed’s most impressive stat, however, is that he has been walked 43 times, yet has only struck out 10 times all season. Reed sent 25 rockets over the fence during his Junior College career, as well as knocking in 100 RBI’s during his two years as an Indian.
The Bulldogs will need him to help replace the huge loss of Brent Rooker in the lineup. Luckily, Reed can play all over the field; however, a large jump in competition for Reed will occur when he arrives on campus or during the Summer League.
Speaking of comparisons, Scout’s Gene Swinndoll has even compared him to current San Diego Padre, Hunter Renfroe. Great news for Bulldogs fans.
Time will tell if Tyreque Reed can keep up his insane numbers he put up during his Junior College, but as of now, he looks to be a potential successor to Mr. Triple Crown, Brent Rooker in Starkville.
