ESPN names Mississippi State LB Gerri Green as one of the SEC West’s Most Improved Players coming out of spring practices.

As the off-season continues to roll on into the middle of May, many Mississippi State and SEC fans are craving for any taste of football they can get. Preseason lists, rankings, Heisman odds, and predictions fill the internet during the summer months until we get to fall camp.

ESPN’s Edward Aschoff decided to list the most improved player for each team in the SEC West division. For Mississippi State, he listed Redshirt-Junior LB Gerri Green:

"“Green has played in 24 career games but started only one. That came way back in his freshman season. This spring, the redshirt junior probably pushed himself into being a full-time starter as a linebacker and edge-rusher for a Bulldogs team that lost a lot of experience at linebacker. Green has been waiting patiently with all the talent in front of him, and he took full advantage of his opportunities this spring. He won’t just take a starting role because of his age, he’s earning it with his play.”"

Geri Green was a ranked as 4-star prospect and a top 300 player when he signed with the Bulldogs out of Greenville, Mississippi. The 2015 Freshman All-SEC performer has all the tools and potential to become an elite defender for the Bulldogs this upcoming season. With Todd Grantham calling plays for the defense, expect the unit to play with an aggressive attitude. Grantham loves to blitz, put pressure on the opposing offense, and cause turnovers.

With Green’s 6-foot-4 and 243 pound frame, he possesses both the size and the athleticism to either drop back in coverage, read the quarterback’s eyes, or blitz off the edge. The sky is the limit for Gerri Green and it will be intriguing to watch how Mullen and Grantham use him this upcoming season.

In addition to Green, Mississippi State features another former Freshman All-SEC player in Leo Lewis, Dezz Harris, Traver Jung, JT Gray, Erroll Thompson, and Army All-American incoming freshman Willie Gay in a deep and talented linebacker corps.
