Homecoming Tailgating Music: The Ultimate Cowbell Playlist

The 2016 football season hasn’t gone like we all hoped, but I’ve got something that should help make your weekend more enjoyable – MORE COWBELL!!

Music has a way of soothing us in a way that nothing else can, both in good times and bad.  And if you’re an MSU football fan looking for solace, what could possibly be better than music with more cowbell?

Yes, it was legendary record producer Bruce Dickinson that famously told us in that SNL skit that he had to have more cowbell.  But we Bulldog fans knew this already. There’s no situation that can’t be improved with just a little more cowbell, including your tailgating playlist.

And despite what Gene Frenkle says, there actually are quite a few songs that feature the cowbell.  I did some research online and asked my Twitter followers for suggestions, and I was amazed at the sheer number of songs that utilize the cowbell in some way.

Of course, the prominence of the cowbell varies quite a bit from song to song, so I pared down the list to just songs where the cowbell is unmistakable, even to the untrained ear (such as mine.)

I even remembered Ole Miss fans when putting together this list. I know the Land Shark defense has been a little disappointing this year, but maybe you can remember better times as you’re listening to Jimmy Buffet’s “Fins”. In fact, you’ll probably never hear that song the same way again now that I’ve highlighted the cowbell in the song.

Here’s a Spotify link to the playlist.  And for those of you who don’t have Spotify, here’s the list in text format:
