Auburn Tigers Q & A with War Blogle
As we have done for the past few years, War Blogle and I exchanged a Q & A this week about the Auburn Tigers.
As you read his answers, remember this guy is a total Auburn homer who thinks Mississippi State is well beneath his Tigers, even though we’ve beat them by an average of 9 points per game over the last four years (which includes their last-second comeback in 2013). He follows Auburn very closely so his answers can be informative, but you can take his slobbering all over them with a grain of salt.
1. How comfortable are you with Rhett Lashlee calling the plays now rather than Gus Malzahn?
"I’m fine with it. I know Gus won’t let him do anything too crazy and I know he’s still calling Gus’s system. I was worried at first, but as I thought about it, I’d rather Gus be in charge of everything and just make sure all the smaller parts are in order."
2. What is the weakness of the Auburn defense this year?
"The only things I can complain about in very rare occasions has been one DB giving up a few deep balls (but not many), and when a non-running quarterback has about 20 yards to run after the coverage is too good downfield. Like I said, these are very rare, and are common with most defenses. I can’t complain too much."
3. Who are a couple of under-the-radar Tiger players that MSU fans should look out for in this game?
"Freshman corner Javaris Davis has been lighting WRs up and got his first pick this last weekend. Also, Deshaun Davis, who surprised everybody being one of the starting linebackers this season has become a leader on the team and is playing way above his star-rating."
4. Dan Mullen has a problem with playing older guys over more talented younger players. Gus Malzahn seems to have the same issue – would you agree?
"Given that around 18 underclassmen have already played this year, I wouldn’t say so. Maybe he does it on the offensive line sometimes, but I don’t think he’s really making that call. Auburn has a FR and SO CB. SO QB over a SR and JR. SO at RB and all kinds of FR in the WR corps. I think older guys may get the nod early in the season, but we’ve seen the talent show up slowly and surely."
5. If I set the over/under for the amount of times you’ll say cowbell from now until Sunday night at 100, would you be over or under that amount?
"I’ll be under. I’m usually quiet with my complaints of rule breaking. o_O"
Yeah right on that last one.
