It’s finally game week and we’ve got some MSU news and notes for your pleasure.

1.0 – Dan Mullen says the quarterback will be “Nick Williams”. So in other words he hasn’t made a decision, although he essentially put Nick Tiano as the 3rd string QB saying he needed a little more time.

So no news there. Expect both to play in the first half vs. South Alabama if not both in the first quarter.

2.0 – the 6th annual “Cowbell Yell” will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1st at 9:00 PM at Davis Wade Stadium. Free t-shirts to the first 1,000 students in attendance.

3.0 – Nick James got arrested on Saturday night which may or may not have lead to him not being on the MSU two-deep depth chart released on Monday. It was James’ fourth arrest during his college career so you never know if that was one too many for Mullen or if he’s just been suspended for the opener. He was expected to start at Nose Tackle.

4.0 – Tony Romo was injured in a preseason game last Thursday night, and it turned out to be severe enough to sideline him for a couple of months. That means Dak Prescott will take the reigns as starting QB for the Dallas Cowboys. Wow.

Dak has played great in his three preseason games to earn this opportunity. He has this chance due to a couple of injuries ahead of him on the depth chart but he wouldn’t be getting it without some great play, as you can rest assured Jerry Jones would have found a veteran to come in if Dak hadn’t been playing so well.

Here’s a podcast to listen to from a couple of Cowboys beat writers:

5.0 – Ole Miss had a horrible week. First they find out Steve Robertson is going to write a book about their investigation which irritates them to no end. Then we discover Hugh Freeze held a fake funeral for himself. Finally, news is released that the NCAA is interviewing players at opposing schools regarding their recruitment by Ole Miss and offered immunity to reveal the truth.

It just keeps getting juicier in Oxford. This will be a story to follow. With three of their first four games against Florida State, Alabama and Georgia, if they were to start the year 1-3 you’d have to figure they’ll self-impose a bowl ban to slow down the hammer it appears the NCAA is ready to drop on them. Or they could be 3-1 and only receive their self-imposed scholarship bans. It’ll probably fall somewhere in between like most things in life.

6.0 – We’re excited to begin another football season on M&WN. We’ll ramp up the content as games begin, and end our summer slacking. This will be the 7th football season for the blog, hopefully it will be a great one filled with many Bulldog victories!
