The picture is in homage to Gus Walley who would have been the incumbent starter if injuries had not forced him to retire. Tight end is a position with several newcomers who could make an impact.

In 2015, Justin Johnson played some as a true freshman and showed some good signs but the job is still up for grabs. A couple of true freshman, Farrod Green and Dontea Jones will compete for the job also. But it’s Jordan Thomas who should have the biggest impact. Thomas is a plug and play junior college tight end. The number one tight end in the nation in 2015 could thrive in a Dan Mullen offense that likes to feature that position. Thomas is a big 6’5 near 300 pound target for a team that needs a play-maker to step up.
