In an announcement on Twitter, Quarterback Elijah Staley has announced that he will transfer from the Mississippi State University football program. His target school is unknown at this time.

Redshirt Sophomore Quarterback Elijah Staley has been a valuable dual-threat quarterback in Dan Mullen’s offense. With this in mind, many will wonder where the Marietta, GA dual-threat, dual-sport athlete will end up. With his decision coming towards the end of Fall camp, his options are more than likely limited.

Elijah Staley played in a total of two games his redshirt freshman year. In these two games, he rushed for 18 yards and was 3 for 5 passing with 1 touchdown. While these stats are not impressive, Staley transferring will whittle down the competition for quarterback this season.

While Staley was a member of the Mississippi State basketball team, he was not a playing member. The reasoning behind this was because Staley was injured his true freshman year, which severely limited his ability to play basketball for the Maroon and White.

Elijah Staley was a 3-star dual-threat quarterback recruit according to 24/7. He held scholarship offers from other schools such as Vanderbilt, Virginia, UMass, Boston College, Marshall, and Appalachian State. One has to wonder whether Staley will look to join one of these teams again as a transfer. If so, I also have to wonder whether we will face Staley again as a quarterback for a team on the Bulldogs’ schedule. If Staley does go to UMass, then he would be eligible to play against the Bulldogs next season at Davis Wade Stadium. We all remember the last time we played a former Bulldog at Quarterback in Davis Wade. Dylan Favre provided us the opportunity to see him again as UT-Martin faced off against the Bulldogs back in 2014, which saw the Bulldogs win handily.
