How does the Maroon and White Nation team think MSU football will fare in 2016?

The college football season is quickly approaching. The level of hope around the Mississippi State football program isn’t exactly at an all time high. The departure of several key players and, most importantly, the uncertainty at quarterback has MSU fans unsure how to feel entering 2016. Don’t worry Bulldog fans, the staff at M&WN is here to help. We are going to breakdown every game and tell you whether or not we believe MSU will win and why.

Over the past several years, MSU has been fortunate that their annual SEC East opponent is Kentucky. The Wildcats are a team with mediocre, at best, football history. Kentucky has not had a winning record since 2009 and has dropped seven straight games to the Bulldogs. Many UK fans believe head coach Mark Stoops is the answer to their struggles, and maybe he is, but can they get the best of the Bulldogs in 2016?

My Pick

Kentucky does seem to be a program trending upward. They started hot in 2015 but just barely missed a bowl game. The last time MSU went to Lexington, the Wildcats gave a valiant effort which was ruined by Josh Robinson’s inability to be tackled and a Turtle Holmes onside kick recovery for a touchdown. Kentucky may be better in 2016 but I don’t think they are there yet. MSU wins by two touchdowns.

Josh Barnhill

Win at Kentucky – there is a good chance UK is a much better team in 2016, so with this game being on the road it presents a significant obstacle. Still, Mullen beats Kentucky….it’s what he does. He’s already won in Lexington four times, this will be his fifth. Could be a really close game, but State pulls it out – the Wildcats have a history of letting other programs continually beat them over and over again (Florida, Tennessee).

Andrew Norwood

Last time we went to Commonwealth Stadium, it took some heroics by Josh Robinson to get us by the Big Blue Nation in Lexington. Unfortunately for us, we don’t have a Josh Robinson behind the line this year to do some insane spin moves and dodge multitudes of tackles for a score. I’m calling for the upset in this one, with Kentucky winning by 5 on their own field. Don’t worry, Bulldogs. This isn’t the end of the world.

Dawg Smack

This is another one that scares me.  We’ve had Kentucky’s number since Mullen arrived.  This is supposed to be the best Kentucky team Mark Stoops has had.  Even so, I believe we’re equal with them on talent and Mullen continues his dominance over the Wildcats.

According to the M&WN team the Bulldogs will be either 6-1 (just me) or 5-2 (Josh, Andrew and Dawg Smack) heading into the homecoming game. Either way MSU should find it’s football team solidly in the top 25 and in contention for the SEC West.
