How does the Maroon and White Nation team think MSU football will fare in 2016?

The college football season is quickly approaching. The level of hope around the Mississippi State football program isn’t exactly at an all time high. The departure of several key players and, most importantly, the uncertainty at quarterback has MSU fans unsure how to feel entering 2016. Don’t worry Bulldog fans, the staff at M&WN is here to help. We are going to breakdown every game and tell you whether or not we believe MSU will win and why.

Week four of the 2016 football season finds MSU going on the road to the second consecutive week. This time, due to a last minute schedule change, the Bulldogs have to travel to Foxboro, MA to play the University of Massachusetts. As much as it sucks for the Dawgs to have to play so far from home, they will get the cool experience of playing in an NFL stadium. The other negative to this scheduling quirk, is that MSU now has two non conference road games( at BYU) and neither is an easy road trip for local Bulldog fans. As for the opponent, the Minutemen went 3-9 in 2015 and lost four games by more than three touchdowns. So how does the M&WN staff pick this one?

My Pick

UMASS wasn’t very good in 2015 and there is no reason to expect they’ll be better in 2016. Mississippi State should be much better than the best teams in the MAC, so will UMASS being one of the worst I expect an easy victory. Happy Flight home for the Bulldogs.

Win at UMass – It kind of sucks that we have to play this game on the road due to Tulane backing out on our contract, but on the other hand it’s kind of cool to have a game in a unique city MSU fans can visit. We should win the game – it won’t be too cold for the players so I don’t see an issue….other than one less game for Starkville’s economy; it’s not like it would’ve been a highly anticipated home game to attend

College game at an NFL stadium? Sure…let’s have some fun with this. It will be early enough that we won’t have to worry about snow covering the well-accustomed turf of Gillette Stadium, but the environment sure will be different. While UMass may be considered a lesser opponent, I don’t think it’s one that we can take lightly. 10 point victory for the Dawgs in this one.

Dawg Smack

This one ought to be an easy win for the Bulldogs, but for some reason I expect us to struggle.  Offense finally rallies and puts it away in the fourth quarter for MSU’s 3rd win of the year.

Another clean sweep. So far we are all on the same page. After this game, the Bulldogs should be 3-1 entering the stretch of the season.
