M&WN Roundtable MSU Football Predictions: LSU

How does the Maroon & White Nation team think Mississippi State will fare in 2016?

The college football season is quickly approaching. The level of hope around the Mississippi State football program isn’t exactly at an all time high. The departure of several key players and, most importantly, the uncertainty at quarterback has MSU fans unsure how to feel entering 2016. Don’t worry Bulldog fans, the staff at M&WN is here to help. We are going to breakdown every game and tell you whether or not we believe MSU will win and why.

Mississippi State gets their first road test in week three against LSU. The Tigers won nine games in 2015( they only played 12 due to a cancellation) and was one of the top teams in the nation until November arrived. Eventually it caught up to LSU that they couldn’t get any production from their quarterback. It was a strange offseason in Baton Rouge as rumors swirled that Les Miles was not coming back as head coach. But Les is back and so is Leonard Fournette, the nation’s top running back.

My Pick

I’m not convinced that LSU has a very good quarterback on their roster. But I am convinced of two things: Winning at Death Valley at night is near impossible and Leonard Fournette is a beast. 2014 Dak Prescott’s not suiting up for the Bulldogs so I’m picking LSU in a fairly close game.

I think LSU is going to win the West this year. They have so much talent, and they are galvanized around Les Miles after last season. In Death Valley I just don’t see it happening. We might get blown out but here’s to keeping it close.

Saturday night in Death Valley is certainly a phrase that will strike fear into most opponents when you speak them. Last time we were there, you saw the resurgence of a disrespected Bulldog team with enough heart to fill an army. I don’t think the magic will be in the cards for us this year, however. Les Miles will make a point to not let us win in Death Valley twice in a row. 10 point loss in favor of the Tigers on this one.

Dawg Smack

The Tigers are loaded this year and Baton Rouge is never an easy place to play.  I believe our defense will keep this one close, but in the end LSU’s offense is more effective than ours and the Tigers get a 10 point win.

A loss here is certainly not the end of the world for the Bulldogs. MSU would fall to 2-1 but it’s still early in the season. Next up for the Bulldogs is a trip to Foxboro, MA to face UMASS.
