M&WN Roundtable MSU Football Predictions: South Carolina
How does the Maroon & White Nation team think MSU football will do in 2016?
The college football season is quickly approaching. The level of hope around the Mississippi State football program isn’t exactly at an all time high. The departure of several key players and, most importantly, the uncertainty at quarterback has MSU fans unsure how to feel entering 2016. Don’t worry Bulldog fans, the staff at M&WN is here to help. We are going to breakdown every game and tell you whether or not we believe MSU will win and why.
If all goes according to plan the Bulldogs should come into week two off of a easy win against South Alabama. The second game of the season is the start of conference play as MSU welcomes South Carolina to Starkville. The Gamecocks struggled big time in 2015 finishing 3-9. Steve Spurrier retired in the middle of the season and SC hit rock bottom in late November when they lost to The Citadel. South Carolina should still be getting used to a new coaching staff under new head coach Will Muschamp. So how does the M&WN staff see this one going?

My Pick
South Carolina may still be figuring things out at this point in the season. Is Lorenzo Nunez the starting QB or is it true freshman Brandon Mcilwan? I don’t think it will matter much because I frankly don’t think this team is very good. MSU will still be working out the quarterback position, no doubt, but the Dawgs roll in this one.

The Gamecocks could very well come to Starkville and win even though it’s Will Muschamp and they were 3-9 last year. If Mullen decides he wants to get cute with the Qbs that could happen. The game is at home, though, so if we play pretty well I think we beat them for the first time since the 90s.

First SEC game of the season at home on either ESPN or ESPN2 in Primetime. The lights will be on, but the Southern heat and humidity surely won’t be off for this game. New head coach in South Carolina means that truly anything could happen this year. While I do see a victory, I don’t see it without the cost of some of our sanity. I think it will take a last-minute score to finish this one, and it will be on the leg of our kicker. 2 point victory to squeak it out in the end.
Dawg Smack
In my opinion, this game will determine what kind of season we have. A win gives us options. A loss and we’ll struggle to be bowl eligible. I think we win this one though. South Carolina is in a rebuilding process and has a new coach and will still be trying to find their identity.
Just like week one, game number two is a consensus win. Picking up a conference win against the other half of the SEC is always a plus when you play in the west. MSU moves to 2-0 and the real fun starts in week three when the Bulldogs travel to LSU.
