M&WN Roundtable MSU Football Predictions: South Alabama
How does the Maroon and White Nation team think MSU football will fair in 2016?
The college football season is quickly approaching. The level of hope around the Mississippi State football program isn’t exactly at an all time high. The departure of several key players and, most importantly, the uncertainty at quarterback has MSU fans unsure how to feel entering 2016. Don’t worry Bulldog fans, the staff at M&WN is here to help. We are going to breakdown every game and tell you whether or not we believe MSU will win and why.
MSU opens the season on September 3 at Davis Wade against South Alabama. The Jaguars finished 2015 5-7 and went 3-5 in the Sun Belt Conference. Of course the record for a team like USA can be misleading because teams at this level take huge paydays to play teams that easily overpower them. South Alabama will be breaking in a new quarterback when they come to Starkville and he could be in for a long day. So what does our staff think about the season opener?

My pick
I expect to see all four quarterbacks play for the Bulldogs. Maybe each guy plays a quarter, but most likely they alternate drives so everybody gets time with the first team offense. All four QBs should put up decent numbers against an overmatched Jaguars squad. Bulldogs win game number one by at least three touchdowns.

Win vs. South Alabama – State is the better team here. The most interesting thing to watch will obviously be the quarterback battle. I wish we had more than just one non-conference game before SEC play starts, but we don’t so hopefully something gets settled for Week 2.

Early morning opener to the 2016 season. I could see a bit of rust from the Bulldogs as we try to figure out our Quarterback situation before SEC play. The problem I’m seeing, however, is that I don’t think we will get a clear answer in that aspect during this game. This will come problematic later, but I do believe that we will be able to pull out this one by at least 17 points. This will come of course after a few heart attacks on account of the new defensive gameplan set forward, and a secondary that is still unproven.
Dawg Smack
Home opener against a team to which we have superior talent – We win this one easily.
So it’s unanimous. Wins across the board for MSU. The consensus is Mississippi State is just better. The Dawgs start 1-0 and welcome South Carolina in week 2.
