Conference Contraction and Relegation

Since everyone sees that television revenues are shrinking, and they aren’t going to be able to continue to shell out the hundreds of millions of dollars they do now to cover football games, people aren’t writing about conference expansion any more. They are writing about conference contraction.

And guess who one of the first teams to get chopped from the SEC in these posts typically is? That’s right. Most people are far too eager to get rid of the Mississippi State football team from the SEC.

The argument is the SEC doesn’t need MSU because it has Ole Miss to draw in television viewers from Mississippi. So lets just cast the Bulldogs off to the depths of despair.

And with the contraction talks, people are talking about the soccer-style relegation some leagues use. Basically throwing a bone to us little guys saying we might could play our way back into playing with the big boys.

The offseason is a grind guys. The Mississippi State football season is getting closer, but we’ll do our best to help get you through it.
