Mississippi State will play Cal State Fullerton on Saturday night after the Titans beat Louisiana Tech in Game 2.

In a resumed game from Friday night, Cal State Fullerton was able to scratch a run across the board to beat LA Tech 1-0 on Saturday morning. So it will be the Bulldogs and Titans playing in the winner’s bracket of the Starkville Regional. First pitch is set for 6:30.

The big question will be: can we get this game in? According to Andrew Norwood, there’s a 20% chance the game starts on time and about a 75% chance we are able to finish the game.

Cal State Fullerton is, as we all know, a baseball powerhouse. They’ve won four national championships (1979, 1984, 1995 and 2004). In the 1979 College World Series, MSU actually beat them in Omaha and CSF was the #1 seed.

Since then, however, it’s been a rough go for the Bulldogs against he Titans in postseason play. They’ve met four times and Fullerton has won all of them, including coming to Starkville and beating State twice in the 1988 Regional.

Cal State Fullerton has one of the best pitching staffs in the country. They will start their ace tonight, but still managed to shut out a really good offensive team in LA Tech. Overall, their team ERA is 2.21.

Hitting is the challenge for CSF as they measure out at just .266, opposed to MSU at .313.

Surely Coach Cohen will hand the ball to Austin Sexton in this game as the Bulldogs try to completely avoid the loser’s bracket.

MSU will be the visiting team by virtue of a coin flip.

Should be a great game. Hail State!
