Dak Prescott could be a prime candidate to join the Superbowl champion Denver Broncos.

This past season the Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers in Superbowl 50, as I’m sure you know. It was Peyton Manning’s final NFL game as he retired about a month later, as I’m sure you know.

Manning had some injury trouble in 2015 as well as some trouble throwing the ball as effectively as he had in the past. The Broncos defense and surrounding offense was good enough, however, to gain the AFC’s top seed and win the Superbowl despite not getting the typical year from Manning.

During his extended absence in the second half of the season, Manning’s backup Brock Osweiler took over and won several key games including beating the Patriots and Bengals. John Elway drafted Osweiler in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft with the intention of grooming him as Manning’s replacement.

Well, Manning stayed long enough for Osweiler to become a free agent, and Osweiler played well enough during his time to get a big contract with the Houston Texans. So that leaves the defending Superbowl champs without a QB.

…..until they signed Mark Sanchez. So, they are now only sort without a quarterback. Sanchez was the starting QB for the New York Jets from 2009-2012 and had some success, but he spent 2013 injured and the last two years as a backup for the Eagles. So is he really the future for the Broncos? Probably not.

FanSided did their own mock draft and it had Dak Prescott going to the Broncos at the end of the 2nd round…..

Some might be uneasy about the Broncos taking Dak for the simple fact that it would be just another brick in the wall of the Tim Tebow comparisons. Denver took Tebow in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, and he went on to play two years there – making waves in 2011.

That’s kind of silly, however, because Tebow’s NFL success can’t really be compared to how Dak will do. They had the same college coach and jersey number but that doesn’t mean they are the same. Their playing style and leadership qualities are similar as well, but things like throwing motion and footwork are variables in which NFL scouts prefer Prescott.

Sanchez will almost certainly be the Broncos starter in 2016 unless their rookie draft pick emerges to take it away from him. But that’s unlikely, which points to this being a great place for Dak. He needs some time to adjust to the next level and playing behind Sanchez for half a year or a full year would be a good thing.

What’s more, this is the Broncos. They’ve made the playoffs in each of the last five seasons, had four byes, three #1 seeds in the AFC, been to two Superbowls and won it all once. Their defense is something you want to have on the other side, and puts a young QB in a position to succeed as they don’t have to do everything.

We’ll see what happens in the draft at the end of this month, but the Broncos could be a great landing spot for Dak.
