Good morning, hopefully you’re warm on this Saturday morning.

BEATING THE REBS

State hosts Ole Miss this afternoon. It’s a must win. Not just because we are 0-5 in the SEC and (obviously) last in the conference….for another year….but because we haven’t beat OM in a big three sport since the Governor’s Cup in 2014. Arf.

Back in my day – 10-12 years ago – we beat Ole Miss like a drum on the hard court. Historically it’s always been that way and not just during the Stansbury era (21-8). Even Rick Ray won two of his first three against the Rebels. But now they’ve won four in a row including a game at the SEC Tournament in 2014.

Get on the board with a win and let’s stop the madness.

MALIK DEAR COULD BE A CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY TYPE

Malik Dear is more of a freight train or bowling ball than a dear, so he probably can’t run as fast as Heisman runner-up Christian McCaffrey, but he could play that type of role for MSU in 2016.

McCaffrey did it all for Stanford this past season. Punt returns, kickoff returns, rushing and receiving. Dear has that same potential.

He didn’t return any punts during his freshman year, but he did return a kickoff for a TD vs. LA Tech that was called back due to a hold that I certainly didn’t see.

For whatever reason, Mullen wants him lined up as a receiver rather than a RB. McCaffrey, who is the son of former NFL WR Ed McCaffrey, is a RB. With all the question marks for MSU at that position, maybe Dear could learn some more plays from that perspective.

Dear can run and catch. Every time he touches it good things seem to happen, so why not go 50/50 on rushing/receiving. I’m not saying he could rack up numbers anywhere near a guy who just broke the all-time NCAA record for all-purpose yards, but he could play a similar role.

SPICE UP YOUR EGGS

For years I’ve just been eating plain scrambled eggs for breakfast. I’d sprinkle some Tony’s on them for taste but eggs were just a quick way to get protein in the morning. Then I started doctoring them up.

You can actually buy diced green and red peppers and onions in a bag at the store. This is huge. Those things are great in almost anything so I just throw them in with the eggs. And I’m a huge fan of pickled jalapenos – particularly the ones already diced. Put all those in and you’ve got a much better scrambled egg breakfast.
