Mississippi State Football and Its Biggest Questions for 2016
Who will be the primary running back in 2016?
The Bulldogs never established a consistent running game in 2015. The 1,873 yards they picked up on the ground was the fewest they have had since 2012.
Brandon Holloway emerged at the end of the season as the primary back, but it was mostly so he could catch screen passes out of the backfield. . The leading rusher for the team was graduating quarterback Dak Prescott, so someone has to emerge as an improved player in 2016.
The two freshmen on the team showed lots of potential at times, but were often guilty of making freshman mistakes. Aeris Williams averaged just over 5 yards a carry on 40 carries and Dontavian Lee averaged just over 6 yards a carry on 22 carries. If the two of them can play smarter when the ball isn’t in their hand, the Mississippi State football team could have a deadly combo of running backs in 2016.
