#18: 1958 – Mississippi State 46 vs. Alabama 42
Early in the 1958 season, MSU had gone from unranked to start the year to a top 10 team. The previous year, 1957, was the first time in program history they had ever been ranked by the AP poll….reaching a high of #15.
After securing a win over a good Alabama team, the Bulldogs soared up to #5 in the country. This was obviously the highest mark in school history at the time, and a feat that has only occurred four more times in MSU history.
The 1958 team ended the season with a 20-5 record and tied with Bama for 3rd in the SEC.
