Hugh Freeze’s Costume is The Grim Reaper

I know. Mississippi State fans wanted the Pope or Friar Tuck or something else preacher related. If I didn’t go that route, you would have preferred to see me go with a beaver or a woodchuck. But the Grim Reaper is perfect for Hugh Freeze, so stick with me.

The Grim Reaper has one job. Collect the souls of all who have died and deliver them to where they will spend eternity. We most closely associate the Grim Reaper as delivering souls to hell.

Ole Miss could put the SEC into a precarious position this season. If Ole Miss and Alabama win out, then the Rebels go to the SEC Championship Game and not the Tide because of the Ole Miss win in Tuscaloosa. And if Ole Miss were to win that game, a 2 loss SEC team will need help getting to the playoff.

Then you have the Memphis issue. If Ole Miss should pull that off and Memphis is undefeated at season’s end and there are three other Power 5 Champs with one loss or less, Memphis and the American Athletic Conference will be headed to the Playoff, not Ole Miss and the SEC. Some say they wouldn’t leave the SEC out, but the reason all the schools agreed to this format was because they wanted a credible system for choosing who gets to play for a national championship. And to put a team that has two losses ahead of a team that two loss team was beaten by would destroy the credibility of the College Football Playoff Committee far more so than it was last season.

So Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss could win out and be SEC Champs. But if they do, they will deliver the soul of the SEC to its proverbial hell with no team in the Playoff.
