The Mississippi State Bulldogs lost a tough game against the LSU Tigers during week 2 of the college football season. It featured the Bulldogs digging themselves into a 14-0 hole, and a furious 2nd half rally fall just short as Devon Bell’s 51 yard field goal to win the game sailed wide right.

There are a lot of things to take away from this game. Some are good. Some are bad. It’s the second week of the college football season, so as tempting as it is to jump to ridiculous conclusions, hold off on doing so for at least now.

If you had told me on Friday the Bulldogs were going to lose, I would have been worried the Bulldogs would struggle to get to 6 wins. But thanks to some really unimpressive showings by other SEC teams, I’m not nearly as worried.

The Auburn Tigers started it off with needing a last second touchdown to tie the game with FCS opponent Jacksonville State before eventually winning in overtime. Arkansas laid an egg in Fayetteville and lost to Toledo 16-12. Missouri struggled much of the night with Arkansas State. And Texas A&M looked really impressive in Week 1 against Arizona State, but ASU struggled to put away Cal Poly most of the night.

Dan Mullen has a lot to work on with this team. And here are the 5 areas I think we now know about the Bulldogs that we didn’t know entering the second week of the season.
