Bulldogs Undefeated in “New” Davis Wade Stadium

Mississippi State and their fans are ready for the first home game of the season, and the first SEC game of the season. The Bulldogs have a number of events planned for the weekend. One of the most significant events is the attempt to break a world record at Davis Wade Stadium.

Someone else is really excited about the game. That would be one of our most famous fans Stingray. Stingray made himself into a mini celebrity in 2014 with his many epic rants for the Finebaum show. He released his second one for this week’s game. If you haven’t seen it, here it is.

One of the most important things you might have lost in all of the excitement was a fact he pointed out. Mississippi State is now undefeated in the “New’ Davis Wade Stadium. It shouldn’t be ignored.

The Bulldogs have not lost a game in Davis Wade Stadium since their 2013 home game against Alabama. They finished 2013 with a win over Ole Miss and won all 7 home games a year, many in convincing fashion. This brings the current home winning streak to 8 games.

One of the unanticipated benefits to the expansion of Davis Wade Stadium was the amount of noise the newest part of the stadium would trap in the stadium. The amount of noise has not only increased by a larger number of fans, but it has gone up exponentially due to the amount of noise being held in the stadium.

And it isn’t just cowbells. This is the automatic assumption people make when they discuss the home field advantage for Mississippi State. The school has gone to great lengths to make sure the fans are following the Cowbell Compromise and Ringing Responsibly.

If you’re looking for an asterisk to place here, you can. The Bulldogs have not played Alabama or LSU at home in the “New” Davis Wade Stadium. I don’t know what our historical records are against every opponent we’ve ever played is, but I would bet that it is the worst against those two schools.

This Saturday night, the Bulldogs get to put their newest home field advantage to the test. The LSU Tigers, a team the Bulldogs had lost 14 straight games to and 21 of the previous 22 games entering 2014, will come to Starkville. If ever there were a team capable of bringing the “New” Davis Wade Stadium to its knees, it’s the Tigers.

We better follow Stingray’s lead and make some noise this Saturday.
