Players Chosen:

  • Free Safety: Nickoe Whitley
  • Strong Safety: Stan Black

The only complaints I remember getting were people saying I left off Steve Freeman and Gregg Williams. Some suggested Pig Prather for strong safety. That strong safety position was the toughest. The Joe Lee Dunn era made it difficult to compile because he had the DOG position that was a bit of a hybrid between a linebacker and a safety.

When it comes to the safety position, it doesn’t receive the glitz and glamor the other defensive backfield position does, that being cornerback. So coming up with this group of players was one of the most difficult when making this list. The cornerback position though, it gave me lots of options.
