3. Chris Relf
2007 Signing Class, 2 Star Prospect

Please do not see this list and think I believe Chris Relf is a better quarterback than Dak Prescott. I don’t. This isn’t about who was the best player, it’s about who outplayed their recruiting ranking the most. And Chris Relf accomplished more as a Mississippi State quarterback than I ever thought he would.

Chris Relf looked awful throwing the football. Every time he dropped back to pass, you could almost hear Mississippi State fans take a deep breath. Despite that, he still set the single season record for completion percentage in 2011 (since broken) at 60%.

There are only a handful of Mississippi State quarterbacks who can claim to have thrown more touchdowns than interceptions. Chris Relf is one of them.

Both Dan Mullen and Chris Relf were fully aware of the limitations Relf had. They both deserve a lot of credit for placing Relf in situations where he could succeed, and as a result, he did more than virtually anyone ever thought he would.
