The Dak Prescott vs Eli Manning Debate

facebooktwitterreddit

One of the more recent popular debates between Bulldawg and Rebel fans is Dak Prescott versus Eli Manning as a football player. Let’s examine the facts of this debate.

The first thing a Rebel fan will like to do is use Eli’s NFL accomplishments when debating the argument. That simply cannot be done.

First off, Dak isn’t playing in the NFL… Yet. If they are to be compared, it must be on what they’ve both done — play college football.

Many Rebels like to brag about Eli finishing third in the 2003 Heisman race and being invited to New York while Dak wasn’t. This is not a fair comparison either.

Dak finished eighth in the Heisman race his junior season. Eli did not finish in the top ten. Dak has yet to play his senior season, so we shall see how that plays out.

What I can tell you is; based on accomplishments, statistical comparisons, and leadership; there’s no way Eli was a more worthy Heisman contender than Dak (and again, Dak has yet to play his senior season).

Rebels want to say, “Well Eli is a much better passer.”

Really, Rebels? Let’s look at a few more facts.

For the heck of it, unfair as it may be, let’s use Dak’s junior year compared to Eli’s senior year — his best season as a Rebel.

Dak Prescott
(61.6 pct, 3,449 pyd’s, 27 td’s, 11 int’s, 8.7 y/at, 151.7 rate)

Eli Manning
(62.4 pct, 3,600 pyd’s, 29 td’s, 10 int’s, 8.2 y/at, 148.1 rate)

That’s how much of a better passer Eli was — essentially, none. So, now that you have seen their nearly identical passing stats, let’s dig a little deeper.

Dak Prescott – 10 regular season wins.

Eli Manning – 9 regular season wins.

Again, not a lot of difference. Let me remind you once again, though, we are comparing Dak’s junior season to Eli’s senior season.

Now, let’s look at the statistical category that shows one with a major statistical advantage over the other as a college football player:

Dak Prescott
(986 rush yd’s, 14 td’s)

Eli Manning
(-28 rush yd’s, 3 td’s)

Dak also added thirty-five yards receiving and a touchdown, but who’s counting, really?

So now let’s look at the totals.

Dak Prescott
(4,470 total yards, 42 td’s, 11 int’s, 10 regular season wins)

Eli Manning
(3,572 total yards, 32 td’s, 10 int’s, 9 regular season wins)

Let me remind you once more, Dak Prescott has another year, yet, as the Bulldog quarterback, a year with Dak surrounded by more talent in 2015 than any Bulldog quarterback has arguably ever been.

The fact is, and if you’ll look at this without certain goggles on, you’ll see, Dak Prescott is not only the better all around quarterback, but just as good a passer in college as the “great” Eli Manning was.

Now tell me again why Eli deserved the trip to New York, and Dak didn’t?

I’ve often wondered if the last name had anything to do with it.
