Dan Mullen Blasts Jim Harbaugh over Satellite Camps
About seven weeks ago I caught up with Chris Vannini with coachingsearch.com to discuss new Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and his new “Exposure U” and his aggressive satellite camp circuit. I talked about how this would be a problem in SEC country and that Dan Mullen and the rest of the SEC coaches should address this. You can hear that interview with Chris right here and just scroll to the 17-minute mark of the program.
It looks like Dan Mullen listens to Double Coverage because he has now responded to Harbaugh’s satellite camp shenanigans and taken the lead like we had hoped. Mullen appeared on SuperTalk Mississippi yesterday saying,
“I’d imagine if Jim Harbaugh is going to have a camp, he’d want to coach the young kids in Michigan how to be better football players,” the Mississippi State coach said. “These satellite camps, they’re recruiting camps. Obviously, it’s a recruiting thing and a recruiting fair that they’re doing it for.”

"“The only purpose for [satellite camps], obviously, is recruiting,” Mullen continued. “I don’t think it’s the right purpose for camps. We’ve probably had 1,000 kids on campus in camps. There are probably a couple of guys who will be SEC players out of that group, but there’s a lot of guys learning a lot of football. But that’s our job as coaches: to promote the game and help young people learn how to be better football players, not just to go out and recruit.”Mullen continued – “I’m not into it. I like kids coming to our campus for camps. I’d rather them come here and see us. Because they get to see campus, they get to see our facilities, they get to see all of this stuff. And our players are working sometimes out while they’re here. They see our guys in the weight room and just see everything. I’m a bigger fan of that.”"
Jim Harbaugh is known for his brash come at you type style and makes no bones about wanting to put Michigan football back on the map and intends to do it nationally – specifically with southern football players.
His Exposure U camp is just the latest in Harbaugh antics.
I highly doubt you see Dan Mullen coaching at one of Harbaugh’s camps anytime soon or sitting down to have dinner. Mullen just said what other coaches have been thinking and he just said it first. Shots fired from the SEC.
