Fan Etiquette: Should Fans Sit or Stand During a Game?

facebooktwitterreddit

We all know the situation that you’re put in almost every single game. The fan in front of you stands up to start cheering while you wish to sit down and watch the game. They keep standing, clapping, and carrying on while you can’t get a good view. Do you tell the guy to sit down so you can enjoy the game, or do you stand up causing a chain reaction?

Coming from the student section this year, I’m not sure what to do with myself when put into a situation where I’m not standing the whole game. After graduation, the feeling of euphoria and joy filled me. Then, the thoughts of football came around and the high prospects of this year. All of this got me thinking, what in the world am I going to do when I get out of the student section and into the “regular” section of the stadium? Do I stand the whole game like I’m used to when I’m with the students, or do I sit down on my hands and watch the game from there?

For some of you, this decision was not a difficult one at all. You simply were more comfortable sitting and watching a game, rather than standing when you watch the game. I’m slightly different in that it kills me a little inside when I’m forced to actually sit and watch a game. I feel like I’m not giving the effort equivalent that the players are giving me. Having played football previously, granted it was in high school, there’s nothing quite like playing in front of a loud and crazy stadium. I want to provide the home-field advantage that every team wants to have game in and game out.

On the other side of the spectrum, there are some that physically cannot stand the whole game, and I completely understand those in that situation. I also understand those who work on their feet all day, then come into a game wanting to relax and watch their team play. Those who physically cannot, or those who work hard to provide for their family, I will not want to impede their view of the game that we both came to see.

So I ask you, the readers, this one question. Which do you feel is better for fans to do? Stand and cheer, or sit and cheer? Put your choices down below and we will see which side of the debate wins.
