This one is Starkville vs. Oxford.
Two sandwich shops that grew out of their respective college towns and expanded across Mississippi and the southeast.
The Bulldog Deli opened in 1981 (same owners as Harvey’s). When the company grew they went by the name Sweet Peppers since they weren’t all in Starkville. In 2013, they changed the Bulldog Deli name to Sweet Peppers for uniformity.
Hurry up and get your old favourite the Bulldog before its too late! See ya for lunch! #SPDU #EatWithUs #HailState pic.twitter.com/cF2AttMvy5

Newk’s opened in 2004 (same owners as McAllister’s). They’ve grown really fast as a up scale sandwich shop (my term)…although they do serve stuff like pizza.
The perfect pair. (Thanks for the #MyNewks photo, @amberallen425!)

What's your favorite Newk's combination? pic.twitter.com/MgcUTZlIUr
Both are really good places to eat. One’s a Starkville original, one is an outsider who’s recently come to town. Which do you like more?
