Mississippi State has played 115 football seasons in its history. Through all those years many quarterbacks have taken snaps, and today we’ll take a look at the best of the best in Bulldog history.
This is a tough list because, while there aren’t a ton a great QBs in school history, there are a handful that immediately come to mind when talking about Mississippi State. So, I’ll throw my #6 guy in the mix right here, and then you can scroll through the slideshow to see 5 thru 1.
#6: Tyler Russell
Russell was one of the most highly-touted QB recruits to ever come to MSU. He also was a square peg in a round hole for Dan Mullen’s offense. Despite that, he was able to put up prolific passing numbers and lead the Bulldogs to multiple bowl games.
In 2012 he re-wrote the MSU record book from a passing standpoint. He had 24 touchdown passes when the previous record for a single-season was 16. He currently holds the school record for passing touchdowns with 42, which he broke in 2013.
Tyler led MSU to a 8-5 record in the 2012 season, and despite an injury-riddled 2013 season he still made a positive contribution. There were several times during his career at State when Bulldog fans dropped their jaw and said, “I’ve never seen a Mississippi State quarterback make a throw like that”.
