The history of Mississippi State football is not always something Mississippi State fans like to talk about. Yes, we have had some good teams, but never have we had a team that came close to accomplishing what this year’s version of the Bulldogs did. There have been times that Mississippi State totaled 10 wins, but never had it happened during the regular season. That changed in the middle of November against Vanderbilt.

This game will always hold a special place in the course of my life outside the result of the game or the overall significance to what it meant to the program. It was the first time I took my son to a game at Davis Wade Stadium. So when this moment was voted on as one of the top 10, I absolutely had to write about it.

Besides my personal fondness for the game, the win over Vanderbilt was an important win because it did give the Bulldogs that elusive 10th win in the regular season for the first time ever. The game was never in question. Dak Prescott and the offense moved the ball at will on the Commodores, and the defense never had a problem stopping an anemic offense.

The final score was 51-0. Dak Prescott went out of the game early in the second half. Lots of seniors were featured in plays that were run specifically for them on senior night. It was a great night to celebrate all that the Bulldogs had accomplished and celebrate one of the most successful group of seniors to ever wear the Maroon and White of Mississippi State

The Bulldogs have an opportunity to add to that win total in the 2014 Orange Bowl. If they are able to win the game in Miami, it will be the first time in the history of the school that Mississippi State has won 11 games in a single season. It’s also a chance for the Bulldogs to possibly finsih in the Top 5 of all the rankings, and that would be uncharted territory for Mississippi State.
