Previewing the Top 10 Moments of MSU

Now that Mississippi State’s Bowl destination has been determined, there aren’t a lot of news stories left in 2014 that could emerge. With that in mind, the staff at Maroon and White Nation assembled what we believe to be the Top 10 Moments of 2014 for all sports involving Mississippi State. We compiled a list of stories or events that we believed deserved to be nominated for the list. Each of our 6 primary writers voted to compile the list. 10 points were given for a 1st place vote, 9 points for a second place vote, and so on. You may or may not agree with our list, but I don’t think you will find too much to complain about. It won’t come as a surprise that most of the items on the list will come from football since Mississippi State experienced such unprecedented success this year. While there have been a lot of great moments, not everything can qualify for a Top 10 spot. With that in mind, here are just a few of the stories that did not make the cut.

Dan Mullen Embracing the Cousin Eddie References: One of the funniest moments of the college football season happened early on. ESPN had all of the SEC coaches up for their “Car Wash” appearances where each coach came on a number of ESPN programs. During that time, they had some of the coaches read “Mean Tweets” that people said about them., The one involving Dan Mullen was about the Cousin Eddie references so many Ole Miss fans like to use. If you don’t remember it, here it is.

It all made us laugh, but it wasn’t enough to overcome some of the great things the teams accomplished, so it didn’t make it to our Top 10 list.

Women’s Basketball wins the Preseason NIT: If this were a post season tournament, it might have made the cut. It isn’t however, so it had to get left out.  The Women’s basketball team is poised to have a great season, and if they can replicate their early season success in the postseason, then they will probably get a couple of spots in the 2015 version of these rankings.

Dak Prescott winning the Conerly Trophy: It goes to show successful the season has been when one of the players on the team wins the award given to the top player in the state of Mississippi and it doesn’t make the Top 10 list. There will be plenty of Dak’s great year covered in our Top 10, so don’t fret.

The list starts tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. with number 10 on our list. We will reveal a new moment each day over the course of the next 10 days with the number 1 item on our list being revealed on Christmas Eve. After that, you can expect wall to wall coverage of Mississippi State’s appearance in the Orange Bowl.
