The biggest game of the season has been played. Alabama was just a little bit better than the Mississippi State Bulldogs this past Saturday. The Crimson Tide now control their own destiny. The only two other teams that have a chance to win the West are Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Assuming both teams win their games this weekend, the winner of the Egg Bowl will tune in to the Iron Bowl to see if they have a chance to make it to Atlanta. And despite the greatest of odds against them, the Missouri Tigers are still on track to represent the East. The Georgia Bulldogs keep hoping for a loss to Missouri to have a chance. Here is how I ranked the teams last week.

  1. Alabama Crimson Tide 9-1 (Last Week 2) The Crimson Tide take the top spot in the Power Rankings after beating the Bulldogs. A win against Auburn or losses by both the Bulldogs and Rebels clinch the SEC West for the Tide.
  2. Mississippi State Bulldogs 9-1 (Last Week 1) The Bulldogs can still get to the College Football Playoff without a West Division Crown, but they would be in a better position if they could hold the SEC Championship in their resume.
  3. Georgia Bulldogs 8-2 (Last Week 3) Georgia just trampled the Auburn Tigers. They are the best team in the East but some dumb losses against the Gamecocks and Gators could keep the Bulldogs at home the first weekend in December.
  4. Ole Miss Rebels 8-2 (Last Week 4) The Rebels could get to Atlanta with wins in their final two games and a Crimson Tide loss to Auburn. They’d still have an outside shot at the Playoff, but they might need some help from other teams.
  5. Missouri Tigers 8-2 (Last Week 6) A team that lost to Indiana might win the SEC Championship. Let that sink in.
  6. Auburn Tigers 7-3 (Last Week 5) At one time, many viewed them as the best team in the country. Now they are staring at a likely 8-4 season.
  7. Texas A&M 7-4 (Last Week 6) The Aggies are starting to look a lot like a Jekyl and Hyde team. One week they look great against Auburn, the next they look mediocre against Missouri. The defense is killing this team.
  8. LSU Tigers 7-4 (Last Week 7) The Tigers and Aggies will play in the final week of the season to see who has some momentum for next year and which team has lots of questions as they head to their bowl game.
  9. Arkansas Razorbacks 5-5 (Last Week 12) They finally broke the streak. They have an opportunity to get to bowl eligibility with a win over the Rebels this weekend.
  10. Tennessee Volunteers 5-5 (Last Week 10) The Vols throttled Kentucky and should get to Bowl eligibility with a win either this weekend against Missouri (less likely) or the last weekend against Vanderbilt (pretty much guaranteed).
  11. South Carolina Gamecocks 5-5 (Last Week 13) South Carolina might still get to seven wins, but it certainly hasn’t been the season they thought it would be.
  12. Florida Gators 5-4 (Last Week 9) Florida has officially let Muschamp go, and their disaster of a season will still likely end in a bowl. Muschamp can coach a defense but doesn’t appear capable of leading a team as a head coach.
  13. Kentucky Wildcats 5-6 (Last Week 11) Kentucky was at one time 5-1 and looking like a team ready to take the next step. They have now lost five in a row and will need a major upset over Louisville in the final game of the season to get to a bowl.
  14. Vanderbilt Commodores 3-7 (Last Week 14) The Commodores have a 3-9 season just staring them in the face. Maybe next season will be better.

The games this weekend are pretty meh. The best one is Ole Miss traveling to Fayetteville. That is the only real chance for an upset in all likelihood. I doubt there will be too much movement in the Rankings this weekend.
