College Football Predictions The Way I See It – Week 12

facebooktwitterreddit

Last week I stepped out on a limb and made some bold predictions.  Some bit me, some didn’t, but man what a weekend it was.  We should see high drama the rest of the way out so that means my predictions will probably suffer, but let’s have fun with them anyway.

Mississippi State gets the luxury of a Homecoming rest of sorts with UT Martin, but around the country the rest of the college football playoff world will get shaken by the time the next rankings come out.  We will call this elimination weekend part 2.  Let’s get right to it.

 Last Week: 2-3

 Yearly Predictions: 32-20

No. 8 Notre Dame at No. 11 Arizona State

It’s college football elimination game-one as the 7-1 Irish of Notre Dame travel to Sun Devil Stadium to take on Arizona State (7-1).  These two teams sit tenth and eleventh, respectfully in the college football playoff poll and the loser will likely be eliminated.

Notre Dame’s only loss was at Florida State, while ASU got white-washed by UCLA earlier in the season.

Look for this to be a high scoring affair with the advantage going to the home team.

No. 9 Kansas State at No. 6 TCU

It’s a Big-12 show down between the Wildcats and Horned Frogs and again, another CFB Playoff elimination game.

Kansas State is currently ranked seventh in the CFBPO, one-slot behind TCU at sixth.  The Wildcats only loss came early in the year to Auburn at home in a six point loss, while TCU lost to Baylor on the road in a shootout back in early October.

Kansas State has played much better at home than on the road this year and granted they beat Oklahoma in Norman, but going to TCU this year is a different story.  The Horned Frogs could be the cream of the crop in the Big-12 this year and make a step in that direction Saturday.

No. 5 Oregon at No. 20 Utah

Oregon travels to Utah to keep their college football playoff hopes alive.  The Ducks checked in this week at number-four in the poll and want to stay within the top four spots.  A loss would all but eliminate the green machine.

Look for Oregon to be dialed in this weekend.

No. 10 Baylor at No. 16 Oklahoma

We continue with the Big-12 theme as Baylor heads to Norman to take on the Sooners.  Both teams want to keep pace for the Big-12 title and while the Sooners are all but out of the CFBPO picture, they can still potentially win the conference.

Baylor wants to stay within striking distance of that number-four spot in the playoff.

The Sooners have two losses by a combined five points.  Look for Big Game Bob to step it up a notch Saturday.

No. 4 Alabama at No. 14 LSU

Ladies and gentlemen, the sun will soon find it’s home in the western sky and it will be Saturday night in Death Valley!

Alabama heads to LSU for potentially another classic between Nick Saban and Les Miles.  If scoring points is your game, this gig is probably not for you.

Both teams love to run the ball and both teams play physical defense.  Alabama has the better passing game and I’m sure that’s not stating the obvious.

The Tide is currently fifth in the CFBPO and wants to stay within striking distance of the top four.

LSU is out to prove they are getting back to their winning ways.  This should be a slugfest of epic proportions and a defensive coach’s dream.

The Tigers are great at night under Les Miles and will need to be great again to have a shot in this one.  They come up just short in a great matchup.
