Special Teams: B
The Special Teams have been the Achilles heel for the Bulldogs all season long. They gave Mississippi State a very mixed bag on Saturday against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Devon Bell had three punts and two were downed inside the 20 and the other was a 51 yard bomb that put the Razorbacks deep in their own territory to start the final drive of the game. Evan Sobiesk hit his only field goal attempt of the night from 37 yards. It is the longest field goal on the year for the Bulldogs. The cries of Bulldogs’ fans have been loud and consistent regarding our field goal kicking, but Sobiesk is now 5 of 6 on the year. If he could start hitting them from around 45 yards, I’d be real happy. The negative was the Jamoral Graham muffed punt. It could have easily cost the Bulldogs the game.
Earning Extra Credit: Evan Sobiesk. He may not wow us with 45, 50, and 55 yard field goals, but if we can get to the 20 yard line and hit field goals, I can take that. Would I like more? Certainly, but I can live with just making the chip shots.
Forgot to put their name on their paper: Jamoral Graham. The true freshman had his redshirt burned specifically for the purpose of fielding punt returns. After he muffed the first punt, Fred Ross was inserted and fair caught every single punt after that. That may be what our punt return unit is supposed to do now, just fair catch the ball. If Graham has caught his last punt return, it will be a shame to lose his redshirt for that.
