Message Boards are a great place to go and discuss all things related to sports in general, whether it’s college, pro, or something else altogether. The one thing about them though is that it can become apparent at times some fans are completely consumed in their fandom and don’t pay too much attention to reality. We are all guilty of that at some point. So now we have the Message Board Post of the Week. Each week, I will go through some of the more popular message boards and find some good ones. Understand that good can mean a lot of things. It could mean insightful. It could mean it’s so bad it’s funny. It could mean that it is based on so many false perceptions that you can’t help but sit there and stare at your screen with your jaw dropped. These will all come from the public pages of the message boards, so I won’t be breaking any perceived privacy that someone might think they have.
Today, we take a break from SEC Rant, and head over to the wonderful world of NAFOOM. The post that caught my attention was this one here from Bodhisattva. It’s entitled “The LSU loss changes nothing”. Here is what he had to say.
"Don’t get me wrong, I want to win them all. But if we were going to lose a game, the LSU or Ark games are much better than AU or MSU. All of our goals are still ahead us. The 3 or more team West tiebreaker goes to whichever team’s East opponents have the best record, so odds are basically zero that we would win that tiebreaker against anyone. The only way the LSU loss could hurt us is during playoff selection if we make it to Atlanta and lose or (if we had beaten LSU) losing to AU or MSU and being 11-1 and not making it to Atlanta. But as far as making it to Atlanta, the LSU loss changes nothing. We have to go 3-0 against AU, Ark, and MSU to win the West. That is going to be difficult. But my point is, even if we had beaten LSU, the odds are decent we would still have to go 3-0 against AU, Ark, and MSU to win the West. MSU only has one losable game (AL) between now and the Egg Bowl. So even if we were 11-0 entering the Egg Bowl and MSU was 10-1, if they beat us they would win the West. So again, losing to LSU changes nothing as far as getting to Atlanta since we have to beat AU and MSU anyway to hold the head to head tiebreaker with them.We have a very tough game coming up. An elimination game of sorts. I don’t know if we can win it the way our offense is playing. But if we do, we’ll basically have 3 weeks to rest, heal, and prepare for the last 2 games (Ark and MSU). We just have to figure out a way to score some points and knock off AU on Sat."
I will say this: he is right in one area about this. They can still easily get to Atlanta if they just win their remaining games. But I tend to think the one thing we were told was gone and never coming back, the enigma known as Bad Bo, making a reappearance in the worst possible spot actually does change things.
As silly as some of that sounds, Rebelbruiser added this.
"Arkansas is the only opponent left on our schedule that runs an offense that can “expose” our defense, and even LSU’s “exposing” our defense led to 10 total points.Neither State nor Auburn run a power running game. Yes, they like to run, but both run out of the spread and like to use misdirection, or at least a zone read concept, which we can defend well with our front’s skill set.The only question for me down the stretch is whether our offense can manufacture something. If we can, we can easily win out and go play in the first CFP. If we can’t manufacture something on offense, we will be 9-3 or 10-2 and get a nice little bowl, but go home highly disappointed in how the season finished."
Another user named Jimbob Cooter simply replied to Rebelbruiser with this:
"Huh?"
Yes, Mississippi State and Auburn run zone reads, but IT IS STILL A POWER RUNNING GAME. So thank you for the good laugh today NAFOOM. I have enjoyed it immensely. Thank you message boards for your continual brand of high (and often unintentional) comedy.
