If nothing comes out of this Magnolia state mid-season rising at all, at least have we taught the nation the difference between Mississippi State and Ole Miss?

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen it. MSU gets called “Mississippi”. Ole Miss gets called the “Bulldogs”. MSU is called “Ole Miss”, OM is called “Mississippi State”.

In 2013, Omaha vendors tried to sell “Mississippi State Rebels” t-shirts. ESPN has screwed up the logos for the schools so many times it’s just commonplace and we quit complaining about it.

You can’t get through a broadcast of a MSU or OM sporting event without the broadcaster referring to us by the wrong name. Verne Lundquist suggested the audience listen to the call of Justin Cox’s interception via “Ole Miss radio”. This was after three hours of play-by-play for the Mississippi State vs. Auburn game and spending all day in Starkville.

You don’t even have to venture outside the south and people are confused. If you tell someone you went to Mississippi State they’ll probably ask, “is that the same thing as Ole Miss?”

Honestly, I blame Ole Miss for their stupid nickname. People don’t know which school is “Mississippi”. Just own it, Oxford – you are Mississippi. We are Mississippi State.

Well hopefully now people will get it. MSU and OM are being talked about as the TWO best teams. That means we are TWO separate teams. Not the same. Mississippi State Bulldogs and Ole Miss Rebels, Bears, Landsharks….whatever. Hobby Lobby.
