The Way I See It – Week Seven

facebooktwitterreddit

Last week was without question the biggest weekend ever in Mississippi for college football.  Gameday, SEC Nation, wins over Alabama and Texas A&M, record crowds and more.

This week the stage intensifies as both Mississippi State and Ole Miss have to prove last week was no fluke.

So let’s get right to it as it should be another great weekend of college football.

Last Week: 2-3

Yearly Predictions: 20-13

No. 9 TCU at No. 5 Baylor

TCU was in that mix last weekend as they upset Oklahoma, but this game is huge for the Big-12 this week as that conference desperately needs a shot in the arm.

TCU is a very physical football team and it will be interesting to see how they match the finesse of Baylor.

Baylor has proven they are no flicker of light and that they are for real.  They continue to show that this weekend.

No. 13 Georgia at No. 23 Missouri

Unless something happens that is absolutely crazy, (which wouldn’t surprise me), and just like that, (Todd Gurley is suspended indefinitely) this game should determine the SEC East leader and champion.  Missouri has shown they can play in the SEC.  Georgia HAD arguably the best player in college football in Todd Gurley.

The Tigers are the defending East Champions and want to maintain that status, while Georgia wants to get back in the playoff conversation.

It should be a close one and a good one for an 11:00 am kick. I had Georgia in this game, but with Gurley out this one goes in favor of the home team.

Missouri 28 Georgia 24

LSU at Florida

Will this game decide the fate of either Les Miles or Will Muschamp?  Probably not, but it could go a long way in that process.

Both programs have looked horrific at times this year and that’s just baffling, considering both programs recruit at such a high level year in and year out.  This should be one of those grind it out games and the team that turns the ball over less times will probably win.

LSU 20 Florida 17.

No. 3 Mississippi at No. 14 Texas A&M

Both of these teams are out to prove last week was not the norm.  Ole Miss upset Alabama and wants to prove they belong in the conversation with college football’s elite.

Texas A&M wants to prove last week’s beat down at Mississippi State was just something that happens once in a blue moon to the Aggies.

This game the last two years has been neck and neck, with the Aggies stealing both games from the Rebels.

This time, the Rebs must go on the road and play in front of over 100-thousand ticked off Aggie fans at night.

I expect this to be a heck of a game and I expect A&M to pull off the upset.

No. 2 Auburn at No. 3 Mississippi State

My oh MY oh!! Can we say game of the century in Starkville?  I think everyone knew this would be a big game for the Bulldogs and Tigers back in the summer, but I don’t think we ever anticipated this.

Gameday, overflow crowd, Heisman talk and the winner will likely go to number one in the country.  The stakes are high, but this is where you want to be.

Both of these clubs are mirror images of the other.  Both play good defense, both like to run the ball and both have dual threat quarterbacks.

This game has been a heartbreaker for Dan Mullen almost annually, having a chance to win at the end, but falling just short.

This will be another great football game and the team that turns the ball over less and makes some key defensive stops wins this game.  Yes that’s cliché and yes that’s simple, but football is truly a simple game that people tend to make complicated.

With the overflow pro-MSU crowd and a quarterback in Dak Prescott that seems to embrace the big stage, I like Mississippi State in this game and I like them to pull away from Auburn in the fourth quarter.

If this happens, Sunday you can say you’re a fan of the Number One Team in America – Your Mississippi State Bulldogs.
