Bent’s Bites – Auburn @ MSU

What a wild and crazy ride this football season has been thus far for the Maroon & White faithful!

If, before the Southern Miss game, someone had offered you a bet that at this point in the season the Bulldawgs would be 5-0 and ranked #3 in the nation, would you have taken that bet? I don’t believe I would, and even my wife accuses me, on occasion, of being a delusional homer!

Nevertheless, here we are, and here we go!

This Saturday we have the #2 ranked Auburn University War Eagles, er… Plainsmen? No, Tigers! Yeah, that’s it. The Tigers are coming to town.

What’s up with the Tiger/War Eagle thing anyway? I tried to find a video online or something that would explain it for me, but this is the best I found:

Remember that on Saturday, Aubie has never attacked anyone. He’s so cool. He’s not like those other tigers. But here’s hoping Aubie takes a whoopin’ like those other Tigers.

Oh! And ESPN College GameDay will be there! Hope everyone has their signs ready! If not, pretty much any picture you find in this article would make a good sign for this game. Especially this one:

There’s a whole lot on the line for this game. There’s another showdown between two Heisman candidates.

There’s the possible #1 ranking in the AP. There’s finally relieving the pain in the neck that Auburn has been to us for the past few years. Do you realize that over the past 13 meetings, Mississippi State is 2-11 against Auburn, including that tragic 3-2 result in 2008? There’s also perhaps a little revenge for other bad blood between the two schools in the past few years, and of course Shug Jordan for leading the charge to get our cowbells banned for 36 years.

If you’re planning on going to the game, I hope you already have your tickets! You don’t want to have to buy them now! I don’t know about y’all, but I never imagined tickets to a regular season game at Davis Wade would ever fetch the kind of prices that these things are pulling on ticket sites.

I just know that we all need to show up and be loud! Wearing your lucky jersey or carrying your lucky charm may make you feel better, but realistically, the best bet you actually have for helping your team dominate in this game is to show up and show out. Let the team know you’re there for them, and be as loud and as disruptive as you can, within the rules of course, when Auburn’s offense is on the field. Last Saturday Davis Wade was rocking! I’m willing to bet it can be even louder this week. I’m not just talking about our cowbells either. When Auburn’s center gets over the ball, put your cowbell down and yell your lungs out!

If our fans show up loud and proud, and if our team can handle the hype train that comes with success to execute at the high level they have so far this year and follow the game plan, I don’t think there’s any reason to believe this one is not completely winnable. Also, if things go according to plan, this:

Hail State!
