Now as some of you may remember, Mike Bianchi is the writer who wrote an article stating that the SEC should kick out both the Ole Miss and Mississippi State football programs in favor of UCF and USF. Yes…I’m serious. This really happened. Granted, I’m sure he was writing this in the pre-season still high after UCF’s trip to a BCS bowl and a highly-rated quarterback. But let’s not look past the fact that both UCF and USF have not defeated either Ole Miss or Mississippi State ever. Yes, even Croom defeated UCF in the 2007 Liberty Bowl. In fact, UCF has only had one consensus All-American who was also their only first round draft pick (Ole Miss has had 11 and 18, Mississippi State has had 2 and 11).
Bianchi’s main argument is that the TV market was larger for UCF and USF than for Mississippi State and Ole Miss. To this, I laugh at to the utmost sincerity. I promise you that if you even ask most people in Orlando (Home of UCF) and Tampa (Home of USF) who their favorite team was, they wouldn’t say either of the two schools based in their city! They would say either Miami, Florida, or Florida State. Also, one thing he forgets is that Mississippi State and Ole Miss are charter members of the Southeastern Conference. Also, I’m pretty sure that both UCF and USF would fall flat on their faces if they ever got a taste of the SEC schedule week-in and week-out.
Now let’s get down to the part where he is hoping no one goes to: on-field performance. Let’s look at this season thus far, shall we? We shall. Mississippi State and Ole Miss are undefeated (5-0), and TIED for third place in the AP Poll. Now where are UCF and USF on this poll? Nowhere to be found, not a single vote cast in their favor. Let’s see why they aren’t getting any votes, shall we? They surely are demolishing their competition since they deserve to be in the SEC, right? UCF is currently 2-2 with losses to Penn State (26-24) and SEC-member Missouri (38-10). USF is 2-3 with losses to Maryland (24-17), North Carolina State (49-17), and Wisconsin (27-10). Well darn…I guess they aren’t quite up to snuff to be in the SEC. I guess we’ll have to deal with the two teams that are undefeated and tied at #3 in the AP poll.
But hey, at least Mike Bianchi is a humble guy and will own up to his mistakes right? Oh how I wish that would be true, because then I wouldn’t have to ridicule him. But, alas, he decided to take another jab at the State of Mississippi after Ole Miss’s victory over Alabama.
I don’t even know how to respond to this. I really don’t. My only question is why does the Orlando Sentinel still employ a man that clearly has no professionalism left in his body? Why do they still allow this man to have a public voice AND get paid for it? But hey, at least he gave us this gem last year. Nothing says deserving of being in the SEC like a crowd such as this!
Tell you what, Mike. I’ll stop ridiculing you and your complete lack of professionalism, if you stop ridiculing my state and the people within it. Sound like a deal? I’ll be waiting, you can contact me any time.
