Football games are won and lost on the field by the players who make the plays, and the coaches who develop those players. Saturday’s game against the Aggies will be no different. The team that will win will be the one that executes their game plan the best, commits the least amount of mistakes, and capitalizes the most on the chances they have. There is nothing outside of these things that will determine who wins or loses.

But I’m still scared to death about a whole bunch of stuff.

We as fans have weird beliefs about our teams. We think the strangest things will make them win or lose. These are all irrational fears obviously, but they still exist. In a big game like the one we have Saturday against Texas A&M, they get even worse. Maybe one day our program will be like Alabama and our fans will have our irrational fears replaced with unabashed arrogance, but that day is not today. So here are my irrational fears about our game with Texas A&M.

Dan Mullen will now lose games he is supposed to win.
Remember when everyone said that Dan Mullen never lost games he was supposed to win, and he never won games he was supposed to lose? Well, he won a big one two weeks ago that he was supposed to lose. That obviously means he is going to lose games he is supposed to win. And the Bulldogs are now favored in this game. Crap.

Dak Prescott will get Mississippi State QB germs.
Dak Prescott has made himself a legitimate Heisman contender. The game on Saturday is being billed as a match-up of possibly the two best quarterbacks in the SEC. This can’t possibly last. At some point, the ghost of Michael Henig is going to descend upon Dak, right? I don’t know how to handle elite level quarterback play.

I can’t watch the game from my usual spot.
I normally watch every game from the right side of my love seat with my computer or iPad in my lap to tweet out my impressions of the game. I have a ton of errands that have to be taken care of Saturday, and this stupid 11:00 start is not going to allow me to watch the game at home. I’m praying to God that it isn’t going to be blacked out on Watch ESPN. Regardless, how do I expect the Bulldogs to win when I can’t watch the game like I usually do. If we lose, it’ll be all my fault.

Everybody loves us now.
When Mississippi State gets talked about by national media writers, we are always the punch line. Suddenly, everybody thinks we are all that and a bag of chips. It’s hard to have a chip on your shoulder and think the world is against you when everyone is patting you on the back. This goes against our Mississippi State mentality. STOP WITH THE COMPLIMENTS PEOPLE!

WE ARE MISSISSIPPI STATE.
At some point, things have to go drastically wrong, don’t they? I mean, every single one of us thought that Hail Mary was about to get caught for a touchdown against LSU, didn’t we? This is Mississippi State football, since when did good things happen to us?

So yeah, there are my irrational fears. I’m sure you have some of your of your own. Tell us what they are in the comments section. We’d love to hear (and commiserate) your thoughts.
